Abstract

The ideal of community is found in the Bible, where Luke in Act describes koinonia as a social reality in which sharing of goods becomes its significant value,  where Paul in his letters gives a mistico-spritual dimension on community as participation in the mistery of God in Jesus Christ. The Bible does not hide difficulties and struggles to make down-earth that ideal. The recent movement to revive community comes from the spirit of aggiornamento of Gaudium et Spes in which Church is conscious her existence in the world and her mission to give testimony of justice and human dignity. Pragmatically, this article offers six criteria, borrowed from sociology of institution, that functions to help building a living community; pastorally, it opens a new horizon in considering the way of doing pastoral based on parish on the one side and on basic community, on the other.
