Abstract

Social change often brings people to a cultural crossroad. New values introduced in the course of modernity penetrate as traditions fade away. In this circumstance, one might loose control, and at the same time a gap will occur between the traditional cultural values that had been possessed and the newly introduced values accompanying the change.
Presumably, education plays a role as a door to the new cultural world. Yet, a question arises as to what sort of education would be suitable for this purpose. Dewey proposed a frame of thought that originates from democratic societies, open to power of nature, and to other human beings, and direct interaction with the environment. Good education will deliver people to become more democratic, humanitarian, and socially just, and simultaniously turn them to be dynamic, creative and productive.
