Abstract

Everybody has various positions in a given community or society, and due to his or her positions, sometimes, he/she has undergone conflicting roles. The role of the eldest sister, keiran monmonen, in Watuleian society is an example of this situation. After getting married, the eldest sister, on one hand, moves to and becomes a member of her husband group and she should spend more time and energy for the welfare of her new group, but she doesn’t. On the other hand, she still involves in various activities in her natal group and her involvement becomes more frequent and intense. Why?
I’ll argue in this article that the eldest sister, firstly, is an alienable possession and a guarantor of her kingroup’s welfare, so that she has to return to her natal group in order to perform a huge number of activities for their shake. Secondly, this situation should be conceived in the Watuleian social context wherein two groups of kin strive to create, to establish, to maintain and to perpetuate a relationship among themselves.
