Abstract

Although God and the creatures are ontologically distinct, creation in one or another way resembles God. God is unknowable in se, but theology may nevertheless speak about the unknowable God. In this case, analogy works as theological language of speaking about the mystery of God by seeking the middle ground between univocation and equivocation. Due to the theology of the Trinity, St. Augustine preoccupies himself with intradivine procession by means a psychological analogy which pays much attention to the human soul as the trace of the Trinity. By following Augustine in Aristotelian manner, Aquinas builds on the psychological analogy for the Trinity two fundamental points: the procession of inner word and love. This traditional way of speaking about God deeply disturbs von Balthasar who claims that human mind and its acts do not deserve to be analogous to God. Instead of receiving the Augustinian-Thomistic analogy, Balthasar proclaims his own way that he considers as the proper one: paschal mystery.
