Abstract

The article deals with social conflict and reflects it from a theological and pastoral perspective. It consists of three parts. The first part offers a theoretical consideration of social conflict. Conflict, on the one hand, is destructive to social order, therefore, it is negative and harmful to the society. On the other hand, conflict breaks down a repressive social control that conserves status quo, so has a positive function because it renews social order. The second part presents a theological reflection on conflict, seen as a graceful moment in which God is present and re-creating his people. The third part proposes a pastoral response to the conflict, taking an example from Papua.
