Abstract

Sachs’ theory regarding  the poverty trap actually takes to explaining that someone or a household cannot have a proper life if they do not have required models for living as human beings.  To live under the poverty trap means to carry the life without capitals as follows: human, business, infrastructure, natural, public, institutional and cognitive capitals. Sachs found the life without these capitals at the slum areas in Mumbay city, Sauri, Kenya and several other places in the world. This article will show Sachs’ idea that people of those areas are being trapped by the extreme poverty. His solution for it is to offer a set of intervention in order to liberate them from those traps. But this solution bears some questions. Then, to what extent does his intervention relate to Indonesian context particularly to overcome the trap of poverty?
