Abstract

Significant touches of change have influenced the life of Marind people in general and in particular of Marind-anim people who live in the village of Buti, a subdistrict of Samkai. It has been happening since the early of the 20th century when the Ducth government and the Catholic Church had begun to establish themselves in Merauke area. After that time, since 1969 Indonesian policies of national development which periodically underwent by the program of PELITA (five-year development program) brought out various impact to the people both in postive and negative sense. A negative impact of the strong pressure of the development to the local people of Marind, particullarly to those who are living in the village of Buti is the threat of their exsistence as Marind-Anim ha. Due to the case, this article is presented as a reflection using Buti people’s lens to see the change and development that happend by the end of the 20th century which have been a part of their life that caused their moral depression as it has not fitted to their world view.
