Abstract

Local wisdom is a worldview which has been practiced for such a long time
by certain communities. As wisdom, it remains to be a trusted moral principle, and it
sustains the idea and hope of social peace, stability and happiness. To put briefly it is a
social capital. However, the world keeps changing. In the world deluged by amount of
information, wisdom is provided and easily extracted from everywhere. This prompts a
question of the effectiveness of local wisdom to be one of central moral guidance of
social development. The question is whether the local wisdom is still effective to be a
social capital for this sort of world. This article aims at exploring the possibility of it.
It’s argued that current development is wrongly taken which brings about manipulation
and exploitation. In this problem, the sustainable development is at risk. Here, the local
wisdom has plenty of teachings to support sustainable development.
